Makin’ The Rounds…

25 06 2008

This week has been crazy with stuff, so I’m just going to present you with some happenings around the ‘net.

Myself and my man Kevin Nottingham teamed up and brought the samples for The Fugees’ album “The Score”. I believe I mentioned that briefly already, but another time can’t hurt. And speaking of Kevin, he has just launched a brand new site. Similar to the-breaks.com, although (IMO) it’s going to much easier to use, edit, and expand upon, and it is in the Wiki format, making things very simple for just about everyone. From his email:

RapCredits.com is a brand new web site that Thomas and I went in on together.  We came up with the idea about a month ago and have been working hard to prepare it for today’s official launch.  The site is a wiki for hip hop album credits.  Yeah, there are a ton of sites out there that you all probably go to to find your production and sample credits for your favorite hip hop album.  Well, we’re hoping in the future you’ll be able to visit rapcredits.com for all of those needs.  The idea is to have a site where every hip hop album is listed with production and sample credits in a familiar, easy to use format.  Because it is a wiki, anyone can contribute.  The site is still in its infant stages, but we have already put up most of the sample compilations that we have compiled over the months.”

As you may or may not know, I’m a pretty big fan of Praverb. I downloaded a copy of his “Gospel Is Free” (check his myspace!) for free-ninety-nine, and I liked it so much that I wanted a physical copy so I could blast in the car. He gladly obliged to send me one, and he’s a real personal and likable dude…check his stuff out. To do that, you can grab his mixtape, or you can visit rockthedub.com and grab the Lighthouse Project. It’s a two-disc set of compiled tracks by the nicest unsigned guys, who are in dire need of some more exposure. These guys NEED to be heard, and what better way to do that when you combine all their best tracks onto two discs. Make sure you check that out, both disc 1 and disc 2. Artists include everyone from Praverb to Wordsmith to Freddie Joachim to L.E.G.A.C.Y. from the Justus League. And speaking of dope free releases, an album from Jelani entitled “Wait, You Can Rap?!?!” has been making it’s rounds on a number of  blogs, and for good reason – it’s dope! You can download that here.

Lastly, there’s a web site I have discovered recently that has potential to be epic. It’s called SwapTree, and the concept is simple. It’s a trading web site for books, movies, cds, and video games. You can post lists of items you own, want, and have for trade. The site uses algorithms to find possible matches of trade partners, and all you simply have to pay is the cost to ship the item to wherever your trade partner is. There’s a spot for item description so you can make sure the item you get is in suitable condition, and you can refuse trades as well if you feel it’s unfair, based on condition or money value. (for example, a new video game costs considerably more than a paperback book.)

I think that’s all I’ve got for now. I’m preparing a large, lengthy post about drugs and music, and there’s more summer music coming soon! Pay attention.
