A Little Music Please?

24 11 2007

Alright, since I told you I’d be doing this whole blog thing more often, I’m presenting you all with a little music. There’s no theme or anything, just songs that I hope most are not familiar with, and I’ve been playing these to death recently.
Hope you enjoy it…leave some comments, even if you hated every single song.

Tracklisting:
01. Braille – The IV
02. Just Blaze – Come On Baby (instrumental)
03. Ro Blvd. – Build ‘Em Up
04. Strange Fruit Project – The Feeling
05. Lil’ Wayne – Hustler Musik (unknown remix)
06. Joe Budden – Star Inside of Me
07. One.Be.Lo – Gray
08. Little Brother – Whatever You Say (remix)
09. Polow Da Don – Like This (instrumental)
10. Ohmega Watts – Slippin’ Away
11. 50 Cent – Nobody Likes Me (unreleased)
12. Longshot f. One.Be.Lo – Learn
13. United Soul f. Phonte & Jean Grae – Soul Clap (remix)
14. Zo! f. Phonte – Africa

Just for clarification:
I’m not sure who did the Lil’ Wayne remix.
The 50 song is from a demo, and he’s hungry.
Phonte Coleman sings the whole song, a cover of Toto’s song by the same name.

Download the whole thing here.
Enjoy it? Hate it? Leave a damn comment. Have a good one.

The title of this post might be a bit misleading. The rapper by the same name uses that acronym to stand for “Music Is My Savior”. While I am not a fan of said rapper MIMS, music, for me, is an absolute savior.

Last Wednesday, my grandfather died. He had not been in overall good health for quite a while honestly. He was a veteran in World War II, and came home decorated. He was always proud of the fact that he had served his country. As for me, I’d be absolutely petrified to go and fight a war, but for him it was seen only as a duty and an obligation. However, he was a stubborn man in his older age. He came down with some hip problems, and resulting complications from the hip issues. He didn’t trust doctors, and felt they were all out to get him. Especially, if he went under the knife for some kind of surgery, he was afraid he would never wake up again.
After months of being in and out of the hospital, he finally passed. Some solace can be found in knowing that he is no longer in pain. As with any passing though, it was still hard to accept at times. I didn’t cry during the funeral, except when they presented a folded flag while playing taps to my grandmother. Come to think of it, I don’t think there was a dry eye in the entire place. I’ve never seen my father cry before in my entire life, and that was a new experience for me.
I feel blessed in the fact that this was the first time anyone close to me has gone on, but there’s more to come. Music can be therapy. I played Kanye West’s “Good Night” quite often, and even though he loved polka music, I couldn’t bring myself to listen to any of that at all.
Sometimes, music can provide an outlet for a person to just forget problems and what’s going on with the world. Basketball or music can do it for me. Alcohol does it for others. Since it’s becoming damn cold outside, I turned to music, and it helped greatly.
Music Is My Savior.
Stay tuned, I’m going to try to get this blog going at a more even schedule, even with basketball for school starting on Monday. Keep on. And if you celebrate it, happy belated Thanksgiving.

RIP
